因为在一标准大气压下，水达到沸点的条件是100摄氏度,但是从液态变到气态还需要吸收更高的热量,在水浴法里，烧杯里的水在变成水蒸气前都只能有100摄氏度的温度，无法为试管里的水提供更多的热量，所以试管内的液体是不能沸腾的.所以常常利用这种温度不改变的原理对一些需要定温加热的反应进行水浴加热.先在一个大容器里加上水，然后把要加热的容器放入加入水的容器中。加热盛水的大容器通过加热大容器里的水再通过水把热量传入需要加热的容器里，达到加热的目的。
